This post is part of the series “Blogging ABC” and can be also found in our “Resources for Bloggers” page.
With the evolution of the web 2.0, one of the most relevant features are social networks.
Studies show that over 96% of students with internet access use social networking sites as a entertainment method or with research purposes.
So, for bloggers, social networks are a great way to increase the visibility of your blog to a wide audience.
From personal experience I can tell you that social networks like StumbleUpon can easily drop over 10 thousand visitors to one of your posts on the first 24 hours. Sounds good no?
This is why we, here at the Digital-Folders Network, recommend that our bloggers submit their content (if it’s good, of course) at least to the major social networks. But don’t worry, it’s not something you have to do forever. After a “critical mass” of visitors make it a regular habit to visit your blog, they’ll take care of it, as long as you have some way for them to do it (lots of plugins available out there for this). All the blogs setup and hosted by us have a “Bookmark” button that shows on the bottom of each post.
Chances are that you’ve heard about all of them:
There is the hard way and the easy way. In any case, you need to have an account for every of the social networks you wish to submit to. Go to the sites and register.
The hard way of submitting content to the social networks is going to each site and filling the “submit form”.
The easy way is using tools that fill the forms for you and you just click submit. One of these tools is SocialPoster.com. Just drag the button to your browser toolbar and click on it when you are on a page you wish to submit. It gathers the URL and title of your post, you fill the excerpt of the post and the tags, click on “Generate Links for submit” and start clicking on the Post. It will open a new tab with (hopefully) the filled form. Play around with it and see how it works for you.
And then there is another advantage of being part of a blogging network like ours. I made a habit of going through posts of our bloggers and submitting some of them to social networks. Each time any of the network bloggers does this, it increases the chance of making a post very very popular and generate crazy traffic. Are you getting the hint?
Use the comments bellow if you want to share experiences with using social networks or, if you prefer, start a discussion in our forum about it.
